Posted Date: 06/10/26 (09:00 AM)

Kindergarten students in Ms. Morales’ class at Parliament Place Elementary School recently participated in a special cultural enrichment experience in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month on May 28.

The school welcomed Soh Young Lee-Segredo from the Multicultural Council of New York for an engaging hands-on activity centered around the creation of traditional Korean fans known as buchae. During the program, students learned about Korean culture, artistic traditions and the significance of the decorative fans while creating their own unique designs.

The activity encouraged creativity, collaboration and cultural appreciation while providing students with an opportunity to explore traditions from around the world in an interactive and meaningful way. The special presentation is part of the district’s continued efforts to provide students with enriching educational opportunities that celebrate cultures and foster global awareness from an early age.

Parliament Place students proudly showcased their handmade fans and enjoyed the opportunity to learn about Korean heritage through art and storytelling.
