February 2024
North Babylon School District Students, Families, and Staff
I hope this message finds you well as we come to the end of February. It's incredible to think that in just one week I will have completed my first full year as superintendent of the North Babylon School District. What a year! I am truly thankful to be here and I thank you all for welcoming me into the community. As always, we had so many great events taking place throughout the district this month. February was highlighted by celebrations for Black History Month, P.S. I Love You Day, and of course our elementary students (and staff) celebrated and acknowledged the 100th day of school.
As a reminder, we used a snow day this month, which results in an adjustment to the school calendar. Originally Tuesday May 28 was a day that school was scheduled to be closed. Due to the snow day earlier this month, school will now be OPEN and in session on this day.
Starting next week I am hosting several drop-in superintendent Meet and Greets. Please stop in to discuss any questions that you might have about our district.

We are well underway with the budgeting process for the 2024-2025 school year, and along with budget comes the hiring of new staff to replace those who are retiring. North Babylon administrators are participating in job fairs, including a Diversity Job Fair this spring in our effort to find the best and most qualified applicants for every position in the district. We will be sharing a one-page handout called, "North Babylon School District At-A-Glance" with all prospective candidates to highlight NB.
As always, I invite you all to continue to seek out information about us on our website as well as by following us our social media feeds and the district app (Android or iOS).

Arianna Pugarelli is a 4th grade student at William E. DeLuca Jr. Elementary School. She works hard in all subject areas, persevering through new concepts which may be difficult at first. A respectful and responsible student, she completes classwork and homework and is prepared to work each day. Arianna is a true team player, always looking out for her fellow classmates. She is empathetic and encouraging; and she includes others in group activities, whether academic or social, as she never wants to see anyone left out. Arianna is always ready to lend a helping hand to classmates, teachers, and staff. She’ll greet you with a big smile any day of the week and is always ready to cheer up someone in need! She also enjoys making jewelry as a hobby, gifting her creations to friends and school staff. In October, she sold her pink beaded bracelets to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness. Arianna is a thoughtful youngster truly looking to make a difference.
As the winter season wraps up, we have two student athletes competing this weekend at the NYS Track and Field Championship Meet. Good luck to Jordan Peck competing in the 55m hurdles and Samara Lawrence who is competing in the 55m dash. Go Bulldogs!
The SCALA All County and Senior Scholarship Show and Award Ceremony was held at Old Town Hall in Babylon Village on Saturday, February 10th. Three of Ms. Sarah Lambert’s students, Peyton Silvestri, Matthew Holcombe and Angela Shi, had their work showcased, and Peyton won the BACCA Award for her submissions. Congratulations to our talented artists.
