North Babylon Students Lead by Example with Race Series
On April 19, North Babylon High School student leaders from the Civic Action Club hosted a 5K run/walk and kids fun run as part of the North Babylon Mental Health Run Series, bringing the community together in support of mental health awareness, kindness, inclusion and anti-bullying efforts.
The event marks the first in a series of runs across multiple local school districts, designed to encourage communitywide engagement and ongoing conversations around mental wellness, support and advocacy. “In a world that too often highlights differences, today we celebrate the power of inclusion,” said North Babylon Civic Action Club members during the opening ceremony. “During today’s race, every step taken is a reminder that everyone deserves to be seen, valued and heard. Inclusion isn’t just a choice; it’s a commitment to creating a world where every ability is embraced, every voice matters, and everyone has the opportunity to shine.”
Jamie DiPalma, cofounder of P.S. I Love You Day, added “We never could have imagined all that P.S. I Love You Day has become. We are so grateful for North Babylon’s support and help in spreading mental health awareness.”
The race offered participants a morning centered on fitness, connection and mental health awareness. The student-led initiative emphasizes kindness, inclusion and standing against bullying. In addition to the race events, attendees enjoyed food trucks, raffles and live music. Local mental health advocacy organizations shared resources and engaged with students and families about available supports and services.
