DeLuca First Graders Explore the Solar System

Posted Date: 02/19/26 (12:00 AM)

Students in Mrs. Berardino and Mrs. Scalza’s first grade class at William E. DeLuca Elementary School recently embarked on an in-depth exploration of the solar system through a hands-on research project.

Each student selected a planet to investigate and gathered information by reading, researching and writing various facts about their chosen planet. The first graders then created detailed planet projects to share their findings and teach their classmates about the unique characteristics of each planet.
The project helped students strengthen their research, writing and presentation skills while building a deeper understanding of space science. As a culminating experience, they are looking forward to an upcoming field trip to the Vanderbilt Planetarium in March, where they will take part in an engaging and immersive educational program focused on the solar system. The combination of classroom learning and real-world experiences continues to make science exciting and meaningful for students.
