Three students presenting their Google Slideshow

During a recent English language arts lesson, students in Mr. Miller’s class at Robert Moses Middle School completed two student-centered activities. Students are reading “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton and did a WebQuest activity to coincide with the book’s theme. For the WebQuest, groups of students researched one aspect of life in the 1960s. They created a Google Slideshow and presented it to the class. In another activity, students participated in a cooperative mystery game to tie into the “The Landlady” by Roald Dahl based on the game Clue. Students were tasked with searching the home of “The Landlady” for clues to determine what crime has been committed and by whom, as well as where the crime took place, and what weapon was used. The game required students to make inferences using supporting evidence from the text.
