North Babylon Board of Education Honors Students

At the Nov. 17 North Babylon School District’s Board of Education meeting, board
members and administrators gathered to recognize students for their outstanding
achievements this school year.
North Babylon High School student Spiros Manolas was honored for being named a
Commended Student in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. About 34,000
Commended students throughout the nation are recognized for their exceptional
performance on the qualifying test used for entry. Although they will not continue to the
2023 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, they placed among the top 50,000
students who entered the 2023 competition by taking the 2021 PSAT.
North Babylon High School junior Saadiyah Proctor was recognized for being chosen
as one of three students across Long Island to perform in a staged reading of an original
work by Stan Zimmerman at the Stage the Change Conference on Nov. 18. Stage the Change
is a nonprofit dedicated to helping high school students become global citizens through
creativity and performance.
North Babylon High School senior Sydney Smith was named a Scholar-Artist merit
winner in dance from the Long Island Arts Alliance. Members of the cast of “The Addams
Family” production at Robert Moses Middle School performed their opening act for the
board of education members and audience at the meeting. They were also recognized for
their hard work and dedication for this year’s performance.
