Students Become Bookworms for Literacy Day

Marion G. Vedder Elementary School students transformed into bookworms as they
participated in the school’s Literacy Day.
With the theme "Books on Vacation," the day began with school Principal Kerry
Larke reading to students in grade levels from pre-kindergarten to second grade and then
third to fifth grade. In addition, former teacher and author Cheryl Babirad also participated
in the activities and virtually read her book, “I Did My Best,” to kindergartners and first
graders. Her book was purchased for the classrooms. The afternoon brought in more guest
readers including the Superintendent of Schools Glen Eschbach who read to Universal Pre-
K students.
Students also had the opportunity to connect with different grade levels by
partnering up as pen pals. They were tasked with writing or drawing about a place they
want to travel to and then their work was delivered to their pen pal.
