Quiz Bowl Teams Triumph in Competitions

The North Babylon High School’s Quiz Bowl’s varsity and junior varsity teams are
back to competing in-person this year and have found much success in their matches.
Earlier this month, both teams competed in their first Regional Quiz Bowl of the
year against Copiague High School. The junior varsity team, led by captain Brianna
Henriquez, won their match 87-64 and the varsity team, led by captain Victoria Fowler,
won their match 185-25. They will be competing in two more Regional Quiz Bowl matches
on Feb. 2 and Feb. 16 with the opportunity to compete in the playoff round in April. This
will be their 10 th consecutive year if they qualify for the playoff round.
In addition to their regional matches, the Quiz Bowl teams have also triumphed in
Quiz Bowl tournaments, competing against high school teams from throughout New York,
Connecticut and New Jersey. They’ve contested in matches that took place at Smithtown
High School, Kellenberg Memorial High School and Choate Academy in Connecticut. They
finished with a 6-4 overall winning record in all three tournaments. In addition, junior
Spiros Manolas was one of the top 10 individual scorers at the Smithtown High School Quiz
Bowl and received an award. Their next Quiz Bowl tournament will be at Smithtown High
School West on Feb. 19.
