Students holding up awards

The North Babylon School District honored several students from Robert Moses Middle School during their Dec. 14 board of education meeting. In addition, Parliament Place Elementary School teacher Nicholas Pei was awarded tenure. Parliament Place Principal Drew Olsen spoke about Mr. Pei’s dedication to his students and the school community.

Robert Moses Middle School students Joshua Emerick, Naima Frederique, Lauren ludica, William Knappe, Onyekachukwu Ndika, Philip Russo and Leah Vanel were recognized for their participation in the New York State Middle School Youth and Legislative Conference in November. Director of social studies Eliot Lewin and Robert Moses Middle School Principal Stephanie Hasandras commended these students for their active participation in the conference and dedication to their academics. Each of the students spoke briefly about their experiences at the conference.

During this three-day experience, students learned about a wide variety of civic issues on the state level and then acted as state senators and assembly members by working in committees to write, debate and vote on legislation. Students were chosen based on grades and an essay that explained why they wanted to go and what they wished to get out of it.
