North Babylon School District students participated in the virtual Suffolk County Math Tournament on May 11. This event brought together 45 teams from across Suffolk County; North Babylon had representation from all five elementary schools and Robert Moses Middle School. The students who participated were fourth, fifth, sixth graders who were selected by their teachers. In preparation for the tournament, students have been working diligently during their lunch and recess periods to hone their skills and refine their strategies.

“Despite being newcomers, our students showed tremendous enthusiasm and determination,” said Amy Michalopoulos, s director of mathematics and business, K-12. “I am proud to report that all our students put forth an impressive effort and made a strong showing at the tournament.” The fourth grade team at William E. DeLuca Elementary School took fifth place in the county. William E. DeLuca fourth graders Uzochi Okorom and Vincent Bufalino placed sixth and ninth, respectively, in the individual round.

“The dedication and hard work of all these students is a testament to the tireless efforts of all involved,” Ms. Michalopoulos added. “I am confident that these students will continue to excel in their academic pursuits and make us proud.”
