At the April 24 meeting of the Special Education Parent-Teacher Association at William E. DeLuca Elementary School, the organization celebrated Autism Awareness Month. They presented awards to the fifth grade Strive to Thrive mentors. SEPTA received more than $800 thanks to funds raised in T-shirt and bracelet sales spearheaded by North Babylon teachers throughout the month. The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department was also in attendance and offered free picture identification cards through Operation Safe Child. The district’s physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and behavior consultant gave presentations on the services they provide for North Babylon School District students. Students were also in attendance and spent time playing and making bracelets with National Honor Society students while parents listened to the presentations.
