Students Playing Instruments

In an effort to keep a high retention rate of student-musicians, the district hosted all of the future middle school musicians for two days of collaboration on March 21 and 24. Fifth grade students from all of the district’s elementary schools traveled to Robert Moses Middle School to connect with teachers and future classmates.

Students began the morning together in the auditorium and were welcomed by North Babylon School District’s Director of Music and Art Elizabeth O’Brien and Robert Moses Middle School Principal Stephanie Hasandras. Following the introduction to the school’s band, chorus and orchestra teachers, the cast of Robert Moses Middle School performed a short act of their play “Seussical Jr.”

Band and orchestra students then headed to their respective classrooms for a rehearsal with the middle school teachers and students. Chorus students rehearsed in the auditorium with the Robert Moses select singers and chorus teacher Mr. Glazer. All the fifth graders reconvened in the auditorium in late morning for a singalong before returning to their respective elementary schools.

Back in January, eighth grade chorus, orchestra and band students visited their future teachers at North Babylon High School. This event allowed the current eighth graders to meet the high school teachers, play along with their future classmates and have a short question and answer period with the upper-class students.
