Joined by family, friends and staff, students from North Babylon High School presented the annual Black History month celebration on Feb. 15 in the high school’s auditorium. This year’s theme was “Lift Me Up, We Matter.”

From musical performances to dance numbers and poems, the night was filled with celebration. To kick off the evening, the North Babylon High School choir performed “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and “Say Her Name.” Other musical acts included “Rise Up” by Alicia Farr, “Allegro Presto” by the North Babylon High School orchestra and “Stand Up” by Ciara and Courtney Hunte.

An array of dance performances left the crowd energized and included “Billie Jean” by Laisha Alvarez Guevara, a Beyonce dance mix, a Caribbean dance and a step dance by the high school dance crew and “Finesse” by Rodneyah Dupre.

Student-poets showcased their skills by reciting spoken words. They included “Miss America” and “Real” by Jeremiah Watts, “Black Pain” by Cayla Hunte, “Growing Up Black,” by Candace Hunte and “No Limits to Being Black” by Emma Buly.
