Kindergarten planting project

Kindergarten students in Mrs. Rebholz’s class at William E. DeLuca Jr. Elementary
School are getting to the roots of their planting unit with hands-on experience. The class
has “adopted” the DeLuca sign in front of the building by weeding, mulching and adding
flowers.
They also adopted the garden beds on the side of the school’s playground. The
kindergartners began the project by weeding, then fertilizing the beds with worms. Next,
they added plants including peppers, tomatoes, lovage, Egyptian onions, dill, cucumbers,
pineapple sage, sunflowers and black-eyed Susans. The class will be taking care of the
gardens throughout the rest of the school year.
