North Babylon HS artists thank ‘Frontline Heroes’

Members of the National Art Honor Society Chapter at North Babylon High School have made it their mission to “brighten the world.” National Art Honor Society President Davan Howard and Vice President Lauren Russo wrote about how the global pandemic inspired them to create the “Frontline Hero Project.”

“It is known that the year of 2020 has been fairly devastating and difficult for a large majority of people. As such, members of our National Art Honor Society Chapter at North Babylon High school have decided to work together in order to brighten the world! In honor of our pledge, we have been working diligently for the past three months to bring joy and happiness to our community. NAHS members spent numerous meetings planning out the entirety of what is referred to as “The Frontline Hero Project.”
For this project, each chapter member created a piece of artwork in honor of the essential workers at a local cancer treatment facility. For inspiration, we asked the faculty at the Northwell Health Cancer Institute for words of inspiration that they held dear throughout the tragedies of the pandemic.
We gathered [those] phrases and ideas using a Google form. Then, each member was tasked with using the words of inspiration to create their artwork. The project was treated similarly to the Sustained Investigation portion of the [Advanced Placement] Art and Design portfolio, which gave many of our younger members some insight into what the course looks like by senior year!
When the artworks are complete, they will be brought together and delivered to the hospital, where they will be given as gifts to the faculty and staff!”

During a recent interview, NAHS advisor Sarah Lambert thanked her students for their inspiring artwork and offered a special thanks to Davan for spearheading the project and serving as the point of contact with Northwell Health.
