Honoring their love for reading and writing, Marion G. Vedder Elementary School held a Literacy Day celebration on Jan. 27. This year’s theme was sequences.

During the day full of activities centered on the theme, students engaged in a variety of reading and writing exercises. Parent volunteers joined in classroom lessons as well. During their partner reading time, older students buddied up with their younger classmates for literacy activities. For example, second graders and fifth graders worked together in the gymnasium to create a comic strip using picture prompts provided by the teachers. Students created a sequence of events (beginning/middle/end) based on the photo.
