Release from Quarantine Letters Update for Students

January 12, 2022

Release from Isolation and Quarantine Letters Are No Longer Required

 Isolation (COVID-19 Positive):

For students with COVID-19, parents/guardians can calculate their child’s return to school by confirming your child’s positive test date or symptom onset date was at least five days prior and they have been fever free in the past 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication, and symptoms are improving. Please fill out the appropriate form linked HERE.

Quarantine (Close Contact):

For those students deemed a close contact to COVID-19, parents/guardians can calculate your child’s return with the date of last exposure being at least five days prior and confirming their child has no symptoms or positive COVID-19 test results. Additionally, if your child has had COVID-19 within the 90 days prior to exposure, they are not required to quarantine. Your COVID-19 positivity date should be noted on the Return to School Form with a return date of the next day of school. Please fill out the appropriate form HERE.

If your child needs to stay out longer than the 5 days due to ongoing symptoms, you do not need to report that to the SCDOH for an extension of isolation. Your child may return to school when they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication and symptoms are improving. Please fill out the form linked HERE. If you have concerns about your child’s return, please contact your primary care physician.
