Sixth graders create comic strips during language arts activity

Sixth grade students at Robert Moses Middle School in North Babylon are using
what they learned in their language arts classes to become comic strip artists. Students in
Mrs. Nocella’s classes recently finished reaching “The Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordan. As a
culminating activity, the sixth graders created a comic strip through the Storyboard That
program.
Students identified various plot elements of the book including exposition, conflict,
rising actions, climax, falling actions and resolution. They then turned their discussions and
the storytelling elements into a visual. The comic strips gave students a different
perspective into what they learned and helped them realize how well they mastered the
material.
