Sixth-grade social studies students at Robert Moses Middle School, within the North Babylon School District, are finishing up their unit on ancient civilizations. To test their knowledge of those topics, rather than distribute a typical standardized test, students could choose two of nine mini-projects to complete.
The digital, interactive projects included a choice board listing their options to create a comic strip, travel brochure, magazine ad, document-based investigation, diary entry, poem or rap, scrapbook, news article or “become an expert.”
Students flexed their creativity, using their artisal or literacy skills to depict the life, geography, government and religion, as well as historical figures, of Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia.
