Important Message from the Superintendent

01/04/2021

Dear William E. DeLuca Families and Staff,

The District was notified that 3 staff members and 5 students at W.E.D. have tested positive for COVID-19 since we were last in session on December 23, 2020. These positive cases have not impacted the safety of our instructional environment since they occurred during the vacation and those individuals have not returned to school. They will quarantine for the required time frame as determined by the Department of Health guidelines. All students and staff have been notified if they are required to quarantine due to this case. If you have not received a call from a North Babylon School District Official, you have not been identified as a close contact of the individual.

The District follows the Department of Health (DOH) guidelines to determine a close contact which is defined as any individual who is less than 6 feet apart from the positive case for more than 10 minutes over a 24 hour time period.

We consistently remain in contact with the Suffolk County Department of Health and will continue to follow all necessary protocols and guidance to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff. We continue to follow CDC recommended guidelines for deep cleaning affected areas.

As a reminder, the symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to the regular seasonal influenza and include fever, coughing, and shortness of breath. Some people have reported additional symptoms, such as a runny nose, sore throat, nausea, lethargy, lack of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. If any student or employee begins to display any of these symptoms, please contact a medical provider.

Again, the health and safety of our students, staff, and faculty are of the utmost importance. We thank you for the partnership.

Stay Well!

Glen A. Eschbach
Superintendent
