Important Message from the Superintendent

November 23, 2020

Dear North Babylon High School Families,
The North Babylon Union Free School District was notified today that a staff member at North Babylon High School has tested positive for COVID-19. Based on the information we currently have, no students are required to quarantine at this time. This information includes the last day the staff member who tested positive was in school, and any person who may have been in close contact. The Department of Health has now defined close contact as within six feet for ten minutes or more over a 24-hour period. It is still considered close contact if masks are worn and barriers are on desks.

As Superintendent I will continue to evaluate each individual case to make determinations for quarantining students and staff as well as to determine if it is prudent to recommend to the Board of Education to close the building for any length of time. At this time, I do not feel a closure is necessary.

We are in constant contact with the Suffolk County Department of Health and will continue to follow all necessary protocols and guidance given to us to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff.

As a reminder, the symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to the regular seasonal influenza and include fever, coughing, and shortness of breath. Some people have reported additional symptoms, such as a runny nose, sore throat, nausea, lethargy, lack of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. If any student or employee begins to display any of these symptoms, please contact a medical provider.

Again, the health and safety of our students, staff, and faculty are of the utmost importance. We thank you for the partnership.
Sincerely,
Glen A, Eschbach
