North Babylon High School students hit the field

On Oct. 13, North Babylon High School student athletes and their coaches hit the field for the first time since school buildings closed in March. The district’s off-season, or intramurals, athletic program is a three phased approach designed to condition and gauge student interest in football, soccer, field hockey, cross country and tennis.

In just three weeks, more than 200 students have participated in the first and second phases of the program, focusing on conditioning and skill work. Phase three, which is scheduled to begin in November, will include a team-oriented approach to practice, while following New York State Public High School Athletic Association guidelines.

According to Director of Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics Jason Friesen both students and coaches are benefiting from participating in the program “It’s great to see activity on the athletic fields again,” he said. “It’s wonderful to have a school district so supportive of extracurricular physical activity.”
