The North Babylon Teachers Organization has been named a winner of the New York State United Teachers Community Service Award. The public relations committee is chaired by Woods Road Elementary School teacher Marie Rivera, and the team has received this award for its community service efforts for more than 20 years. Some of their initiatives last year included a fundraiser for the Babylon Cancer Coalition, fundraisers to local animal shelters and the Northport Veteran’s Hospital, sponsoring local food pantries, and awarding $2,500 in scholarships to North Babylon students.
