Two teams from the district have been selected as statewide winners of the FIRST in Math regional competition. One of the grade two regional winning teams is from Belmont Elementary School in Mr. Biondo’s class and one of the grade three regional winning teams is from Ms. Manning’s class at Parliament Place Elementary School.

The competition is for grades 1-5, and each team consists of three students. The New York State competition will take place on May 20 at the University of Albany. Each building received $1,000 for their regional win.

Congratulations to the following students from Belmont Elementary School: Qawiyy Lawal, Harrison Gorbert and Dylan Headley; and Jaxon Medina, Musa Hashemi and Emma Negron from Parliament Place Elementary School.

The 2023 Virtual Regional Tournament competition tests fact fluency, automaticity, problem-solving, procedural fluency and other critical math skills. As students practice, the games' simple structure allows learners to engage quickly, seek out higher levels of challenge, and increase confidence in mental-math abilities.
