NBHS junior Joseph Candia was recognized for earning the rank of Eagle Scout at the March 21 North Babylon School District’s Board of Education meeting.

Superintendent of Schools Glen Eschbach presented Candia with a certificate of commendation and spoke of his efforts in achieving this rank. For his Eagle Scout project, Candia repaired and replaced a damaged fence around the playground at the park of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in West Islip. He also created playground art in the adjacent parking lot on Toomey Road, cleaned up the entire playground area, trimmed all low tree branches to avoid potential injuries and planted more than 70 bulbs in the various gardens around the church.

Candia also serves as a member of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, which Superintendent Eschbach described him as an outstanding student.

“He’s always willing to participate, give us ideas on how we can improve our school district,” Superintendent Eschbach said. “I’m really proud to know you, and congratulations on accomplishing the Eagle Scout rank.”
