Third-graders at Belmont experienced the wonders of China within the school’s library. They were able to explore artifacts — including traditional Chinese clothing, silk paintings, bamboo containers, and an abacus — in the Journey’s Discovery Chest.

The exhibit was made available to the school from the Huntington Arts Council.  Students created their own fire monkeys in art to represent the 2016, the Year of the Monkey.  Every student then received traditional Chinese red envelopes containing artificial money, symbolizing good luck and good fortune in the New Year.

The program was a collaboration among all third-grade classroom teachers, art teacher Carolyn Whitney, school library media specialist Jennifer Olsen and reading specialist Susan Levine.
