The District is working with Island Harvest to provide free meals to kindergarten to 12th grade students during the summer programs. Through Island Harvest’s Summer Feeding program, they receive free lunch and snack every day. In addition, students who normally get free breakfast during the school year continue to receive that service for the summer program.

Superintendent of Schools Glen Eschbach and district administration welcomed Island Harvest CEO Randi Dresner, Island Harvest Vice President of Program and Agency Relations Allison Puglia, New York State Sen. Phil Boyle, and New York State Assemblyman Michael LiPetri to William E. DeLuca School, where they witnessed how the program is carried out throughout the day.

As students enter the building, they are greeted by district teachers and then pick up their breakfast in the lobby. They enjoy their nutritious breakfast in the classroom during “together time,” where they share what they did the day before and what they learned with teachers and other students.

The assembled breakfast by Island Harvest has become a significant part of student growth in both their bodies and minds.
