Mrs. Jodi Rebholz’s kindergarten class of William E. DeLuca participated in a pumpkin report, where students analyzed and compared pumpkins with parents and then decorated their pumpkin for display in the school courtyard.

To warm up for the activity, Mrs. Rebholz read Linda William’s “The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything,” where students participated in describing the sounds in the book’s narrative. After that, students were put into groups for the pumpkin report and were guided by parents throughout the activity.

Students had to identify the size and texture of their pumpkin, and draw what the inside of their pumpkin looked like. Students also estimated what shapes can be used to decorate a pumpkin.

Mrs. Rebholz then directed each group to start decorating their pumpkins. Using stickers, glitter, cutouts and other decorative tools, students eagerly adorned their pumpkins to make for a perfect display.

All five pumpkins can now be seen in the school’s courtyard.
