Congratulations to fourth-grade teacher Gina Marie Petraglia who has been honored as a 2018 Teacher of Excellence by State Sen. Phil Boyle.
In addition to demonstrating a consistent commitment to student success, Petraglia, who has been an educator for 25 years, serves as a mentor to new teachers and is a member of the Superintendent’s Advisory Council. She has taught graduate-level introductory education courses to preservice interns as part of the district’s partnership with Dowling College as a Professional Development School, presented research projects at the annual conferences of the National Association of Professional Development Schools and the Annual Meetings of the American Educational Research Association, and published several chapters, papers and articles about education reform and improvement in journals. She was also one of the presenters representing the district at the 2018 annual meeting of AERA: The Dreams, Possibilities, and Necessity of Public Education in New York City. The presentation was entitled, Pupil Perceptions and Feedback: Classroom Action Research Studies in a Professional Development School Setting.
