As part of a new multifaceted initiative designed to continue developing students’ skills in STEAM, the district collaborated with the Heckscher Museum of Art and brought the museum to the classroom.

As part of the program, sixth-graders at the middle school created stunning pieces of art under the leadership of museum educators Joy Weiner and Kristina Schaff, who visited the school to work directly with students, and art teachers Lisa Gregorek and Paul Guadagnino. Following their exploration of mandalas and spinning spirals in art history, students created their own dynamic circular designs through painting and collage.

On March 1, Heckscher representatives visited the middle school to observe the incredible completed works of art with the students who created them. The spinning spirals will remain display on the hallway walls throughout the school for the rest of the school year.
