The North Babylon Council of PTAs continued their tireless support of the students, schools, and community of North Babylon as they hosted their annual Legislative Breakfast.

During the event, the PTAs welcomed New York State Senator Owen Johnson, New York State Assemblymen Philip Boyle, Andrew Raia, and Robert K. Sweeney, Suffolk County Legislator Majority Leader DuWayne Gregory, Suffolk County Legislator Deputy Presiding Officer Wayne R. Horsley, Suffolk County Legislator Steve Stern, Town of Babylon Supervisor Richard Schaffer, Town of Babylon Councilmen Thomas Donnelly and Tony Martinez, and Gordon Canary, District Office Manager for Senator Johnson, to discuss issues facing North Babylon, tax cap legislation, and other important topics.

During her presentation, Superintendent of Schools Patricia Godek praised students and staff for their accomplishments in the classroom, on the athletic field, and on the stage. She also discussed the rapidly changing world of education, increasing state and federal standards, the influx of state and federal unfunded mandates, and declining state aid. “How do we provide an equitable education when there is no equitable funding?” she postulated.

Following Mrs. Godek’s presentation, the audience listened to comments from Board of Education Vice President Audrey Jacullo, Woods Road Principal Steven Golub, and President of the North Babylon Teachers’ Organization Selina Durio. Once all comments were heard, Ms. Durio served as moderator as the legislators fielded questions from the public.
