Wearing their most comfortable pajamas, students at Parliament Place in North Babylon began what is sure to become a time-honored tradition of gathering together in the hallway to listen to a recording of Chris Van Allsburg’s “The Polar Express.” The students sat quietly as the story unfolded, viewed the illustrations as their teachers turned the pages of the children’s book, and enjoyed the cookies and milk. Following the reading, the students ventured back into their classrooms to discuss the holiday favorite.

“We thought that this would be a nice holiday treat for the students,” said Principal Drew Olson. “Listening skills are a major component of the English Langauge Arts assessment, so in addition to being a fun activity, they’re working on fine tuning important skills.”
