Four members of the high school’s girls track team were named All-State at the New York State Track and Field Championships in Syracuse.

Senior Tara Hernandez defeated the top hurdler in the nation to clinch the overall state championship in the 400-meter hurdles.

"I just knew I had to sprint, finish it off and I knew I was going to win the title if I kept going,” Hernandez said. When asked what makes her so successful, she said, "You gotta want it." She is currently ranked sixth in the country.

Hernandez then joined her 400-meter relay team of seniors Taylor Figueroa, and sophomores Nicola Calabrese and Samantha Quigley to place fifth in the NYSPHSAA Championships, and eighth in the Federation Finals.

The girls brought home a total of 10 medals and a lifetime of memories.

Hernandez will be running for Long Island University next year, and Figueroa will be competing for Queensboro Community College.
