The students at Marion G. Vedder Elementary School in North Babylon came together for Veterans Day to honor the brave men and women who have served, and are currently serving, in our armed forces.

During their annual presentation, the students and local veterans gathered around the flagpole for a flag raising ceremony. As North Babylon High School Band Director Frank Rizzo played “Taps” on his trumpet, the American flag was slowly raised. Also during the ceremony, high school senior Francesca sang a beautiful rendition of the national anthem, and a schoolwide sing-along of “God Bless America” was enjoyed by all in attendance.

“We take this moment every year to raise our American flag in honor of our country and to remember our veterans and all they have sacrificed for our freedoms,” remarked Principal Kerry Larke.

Following the flag presentation, the local veterans moved into the auditorium, where the celebration continued with a slideshow presentation, songs, and refreshments.
