Parliament Perfects Trial Process

Fourth-grade students in Ms. Montuori’s class at Parliament performed a mock trial before special guest Judge James McDonough of the Fifth District Court.

Prior to the students’ presentation of the trial, Judge McDonough spoke about his profession and answered questions. With each student playing a role in the trial, the class presented a case based on a story they read entitled “A Burst of Autumn Anger,” and presented the trial to a jury consisting of Judge McDonough, Superintendent of Schools Glen Eschbach and Parliament Principal Drew Olson.

The mock trial served as a way for students to exhibit what they have learned about the importance of a fair trial, court proceedings and the purpose of the different roles of law enforcement.
