District’s Schools Remember 9/11

Schools throughout the district held ceremonies on the 13th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks to honor those who lost their lives on that tragic day.

At Parliament Place School, Principal Drew Olson spoke about the historical context of the date after all of the children recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Olson’s speech was followed by a musical performance of “God Bless America” by fifth-graders under the direction of teacher Laura Hopkins. Students throughout the school wore combinations of red, white and blue to represent the country’s colors.

“We planned a special outdoor morning ceremony to bring remembrance for Sept. 11 and the significance the date holds for Americans,” Olson said. “It’s important for our students to understand how that day altered history and to honor our wonderful nation. We will never forget, and we want to make sure that our children never do, either.”
