Quilt of Character

Using the unit on sewing as an opportunity to teach her students about the importance of community service, sixth-graders in Tina Lopes’ home and careers skills class at North Babylon’s Robert Moses Middle School worked together to create a class quilt.

“Over the last few months, students worked on hand sewing projects, including backpacks and small pillows,” said Mrs. Lopes. Using the skills they learned, the students each sewed individual squares that were put together to complete a class quilt. The completed quilt was donated to a local family whose daughter is ill.
