To recognition of Valentine’s Day, and as a way to build community relationships, fifth-graders in Tara Cavanagh’s class from North Babylon’s Marion G. Vedder Elementary School traveled to Spangle Drive Senior Center in North Babylon and created special Valentine’s crafts. As an extension of their art class with teacher Lisa Gregorek, the students created oil pastel heart Valentine’s Day cards in the vein of 1960s pop artist Jim Dine.

“This is such a rewarding activity for the students,” said Ms. Gregorek. “It’s great for our students to come to the senior center and interact with the local seniors.”
