Fourth-grade students from Belmont and Marion G. Vedder elementary schools in the North Babylon School District came together to spend the day learning about the way of life and traditions of the Eastern Native Americans. During the event, the students played games, made miniature clay bowls, and were exposed to numerous Native American artifacts and their purposes. Additionally, the children partook in a Native American story and learned a song and dance. “This field trip was held to give students an introduction to the Iroquois life so that they would have a better understanding and comprehension of the New York State ELA module,” said Belmont fourth-grade teacher Gina Petraglia.
