Hello this is Glen Eschbach, Superintendent of the North Babylon School District.

As we try to navigate these uncertain times as they relate to COVID-19, the North Babylon School District is committed to ensuring the health and safety of our students, staff, and community members. We have been closely monitoring the current health crisis as it relates directly to the North Babylon Community, Suffolk County, the State and beyond. While we have no confirmed cases of the virus in regards to any staff or students, our concern for our community at large has heightened.

At this time, New York State has not changed their guidance as it relates to school closure, although we are currently operating under a State of Emergency. But, out of an abundance of caution, at today’s Board of Education Meeting, a decision was made to close school from March 16th through March 24th with a return date for all staff and students of March 25th. Therefore, based on this calendar change, students will be off for the next 7 school days. Determinations regarding if any make-up days will be necessary will be made at a later time.

Given the fluid nature of this health crisis, and how guidance has been changing so quickly, further adjustments to the calendar may be necessary in the future moving forward. Please know the Board of Education and the educators of the North Babylon School District understand the hardship a decision like this may bring to some families and we truly appreciate your understanding. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me should you need help and support.

Additional information regarding the school work during the time at home and the availability of food at the school while closed will be made available in a follow-up robo-call.
