On April 30th, 2011 two lives were lost during an automobile accident with a drunk driver.  One of those lives was Dan Gambardella who left behind wife Linda, a 16-year old son Danny, and a 7-year old daughter Ava. A member of the North Babylon Baseball family and a pillar in the community was lost forever. Many of the program’s players and countless other young people in the community were at one time coached by Dan Gambardella in both soccer and baseball. One of those players is his son Danny Gambardella Jr. The bond between father and son through athletics was evident for anyone who witnessed them on a field or just being in their presence.

The team is dedicated to raising money by selling popcorn during lunch periods in school and holding a raffle during the month of April. The proceeds will be going to Linda, who will be doing a walk for MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) on June 2nd. The North Babylon Baseball team will be playing a special game on May 7th, 2013 in honor of Dan Gambardella by wearing special jerseys with the MADD logo on the front. In a pregame ceremony the team will present a check to Mrs. Gambardella for the MADD organization and the Dan Gambardella Memorial Fund.
